Nallur Kovil

Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil is one of the most important Hindu temples in Sri Lanka, dedicated to Lord Murugan (Skanda). Located in Jaffna, it is known for its striking red-and-gold architecture, tall gopuram (tower), and rich cultural heritage. The temple is a major religious center for Tamil Hindus and is especially famous for the annual Nallur Festival, which attracts thousands of devotees who participate in vibrant rituals and processions.

Jaffna Fort

Jaffna Fort, a 400-year-old landmark, was built by the Portuguese in 1618, then seized and expanded by the Dutch in 1658 into a star-shaped, five-bastioned stone fortress. Known as the “Fortress of Our Lady of Miracles,” it served as a key British military site until 1948. It suffered damage during the Civil War, later becoming a visitor site. 

Point Pedro- Extreme north Jaffna peninsula 

Point Pedro lies 30 km northeast of Jaffna and has been used as a natural anchorage for ships from the ancient past. It is said to be the best natural harbor in the Jaffna peninsula. The name Point Pedro is a corruption of the Portuguese name “Punta das Pedras,” meaning “Rocky Point,” an identity descriptive of the natural features of the cape.
 
As generally believed, Point Pedro is not the most northern edge of Sri Lanka. The small triangular fort was built on the corals jutting out to the sea at Point Pedro around 1665 during the second Anglo-Dutch War by the Dutch VOC company.
