Katharagama Temple

The Kataragama Temple is special because it is a multi-religious sacred site in Sri Lanka, worshipped by Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, and the indigenous Vedda people. It is dedicated mainly to Lord Kataragama, the Hindu god of war(Murugan) and symbolizes religious harmony. The temple is also famous for its annual Esala Festival, featuring fire walking and colorful processions mainly in the month of July attracting thousands of pilgrims who show great devotion.
